Sea buckthorn, commonly known as yellow thorn, is a highly branched shrub that can grow into a tree up to 9 meters and belongs to the Elaeagnaceae family. The berries, and especially their oil, contain lipophilic compounds. The oil from the seeds and pulp of the fruit is a source of unsaturated fatty acids that are healthy and have a major impact on human health. These fatty acids play an important role in cerebrovascular and cardiovascular pathologies, as well as stimulate the immune system and promote cognitive function and bone health. Increasing its intake in the diet has shown positive effects on neurological disorders such as depression, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's disease.
